Music lovers and anyone looking for a family-friendly opportunity to get together with friends while benefiting one of Newtown’s five volunteer fire companies can mark their calendars for a first of its kind fundraiser.

“Rockin’ the ‘Ville” is set for Saturday, June 13, on the grounds of Hawleyville Volunteer fire station, 34 Hawleyville Road.

From 4 to 8 pm that day, attendees can enjoy dinner and dancing to the sounds of the band Feedback, performing classic rock and contemporary pop from artists including Pink, Tonic, Incubus, Nirvana, Lady Gaga, Gavin Degraw, Heart, Pat Benatar, 3 Doors Down, Adele, Journey, Evanescence and No Doubt.

Rockin’ the ‘Ville is sponsored by the Stony Hill Four Corners (SH4C) Business Association, which promotes businesses in the Route 6 corridor and hosts community events in the area straddling the western Newtown and eastern Bethel town lines. Feedback’s lead singer is Frank Zagottis a founding member of Stony Hill Four Corners.

Hawleyville Fire  Department is the first responding company protecting residents and businesses in the area, including the section of I-84 that runs through its district. Residential and business growth in the area has spurred an increase in calls and a greater need for the local fire company and its resources.

The event is also featuring farm to table meals donated by Maplewood of Newtown and Maplewood of Stony Hill, and prepared by award winning chefs Peter Allen and Dave Simmonds.

During band breaks, attendees can get in on live and silent auctions, with all prizes donated by area businesses and supporters, and all proceeds going directly to the fire company.

Tickets are $15 in advance, or  $20 at the door. There will be four different selections at $10 plate including a soft drink or water:

*Burger Special, featuring a Black Angus burger on a Portuguese roll with applewood smoked bacon, melted cheese and carmelized onions, lettuce and tomato;

*Cubano Sandwich, with slow roasted pulled pork shoulder on a roll with local pickles (Colebrook Farm), local aged cheddar, and fried plantains;

* Roasted Chicken, offering a quarter chicken (leg and thigh), marinated with garlic, fresh herbs and olive oil; and

*Vegetarian, with oven roasted balsamic glazed vegetables over field greens

Sides include tri-colored potato salad (local), cranberry cole slaw, bread. Beer and wine will also be sold.

Anyone wishing to donate to the auction or raffle may contact Jami Zapata at jami.zapata@gmail.com.
