GIRLS TRAVEL U13

The Newtown Flash took a second place trophy in the Memorial Day Tournament winning three of their four tournament games. Emily Brisson, goalkeeper for the series, earned the shut-outs in the Flash’s three victories.

Newtown Flash 1, Danbury Derbies 0 – The Flash played flawlessly in their first game of the tournament against their aggressive opponents from Danbury. Kelly Brooks, Julia Trudell, and Katie Shirley maintained a high amount of hustle in their defensive work to help keep Danbury from scoring. Zoe Eggleston and Jilliana Ciamarra played midfield decisively. Stephanie Roman scored the deciding goal with the assist from Lydia Beiter.

 New Fairfield 4, Newtown Flash 1 – Lydia Beiter of the Flash scored with an assist from Stephanie Roman. Abby Blakeman gave her all defensively. Jilliana Ciamarra put out a great effort in midfield.

 Newtown Flash 4, Bethel 0 – Kelly Brooks, Lydia Beiter, Lindsay Jossick, and Zoe Eggleston scored goals. Kyra Murray, Stephanie Roman, Katie Shirley, and Lindsay Jossick got assists. Midfielder, Meaghan Harkins did great passing. Molly Arneth kept on top of Bethel in midfield.

 Newtown Flash 1, Wilton 0 – Abby Blakeman blasted a long distance goal from an assist off of Lydia Beiter. Defensive player, Bianca Solano, was pivotal in moving the ball back to the offensive end efficiently. Lyndsey Pearlman excelled at intercepting the ball and bringing it up for the offense.

 

GIRLS TRAVEL U11

 The Newtown Lightning were undefeated in the Newtown Kickoff Tournament. They shut out their opponents in three out of four games, and took home the tournament title for the U11 girls division.

 Lightning 4, Danbury 2 – Danbury came on strong and scored the first two goals, but the New-town players kept their composure and came back to put in four in a row for the win. Sarah Lynch pulled out all the stops as she scored all four goals for the Lightning. Jessica Keller and Emily Riley had great all-around games, and Kate Fallon was tough in goal throughout the contest.

 Lightning 4, Wilton White 0 – Kailee Dunnigan led with two goals and Sarah Lynch and Siena Cicarelli scored one apiece as the Lightning won a decisive victory over Wilton White. Cicarelli, Megan Meyer, and Amy Martinelli controlled the midfield, and Kate Fallon was solid on D. Mich-ele Zarifis and Helene Sorenson were good in the nets.

 Lightning 5, New Milford 0 – In their third tournament game the U11 girls dominated on both ends of the field, scoring five times while preventing their opponents from taking a single shot on goal. Sarah Lynch had two goals for Newtown, and Kailee Dunnigan, Megan Meyer, and Emily Riley each had one. Michele Zarifis and Shelby Tolla both had good games in midfield and Helene Sorensen played well on defense.

 Lightning 1, Wilton 0 – In Newtown’s toughest game of the tournament, the Lightning and Wilton battled scoreless for most of the contest. Wilton packed its players on defense, and was able to keep Newtown from scoring despite numerous attempts at the nets. Sarah Lynch, Kailee Dunni-gan, Raquel Crespom, and Jessica Keller applied constant offensive pressure, and Lynch scored the winning goal with moments left in the game. On the defensive end, Meaghan Brophy, Meg Korchman, and Dale Shearin were a solid wall, containing any offensive effort by Wilton. Kate Fallon and Siena Cicarelli combined in goal for the shutout.

GIRLS TRAVEL U10

Comets 5, Brookfield 1 – The Comets had a fairly easy time of it as Kelsey Muniz scored four goals in the first half with the capable support of Julia Schoeni, Casey Harkins, and Kimberly Brello, who contributed assists. Katie Mossbarger added another goal, and keeper duties were shared by Emily Charash and Alyssa Ruefenacht.

 Comets 5, Westport 0 – A balanced attack brought contributions from Kelsey Muniz with two goals; Casey Harkins, Katie Mossbarger and Alana Murray with one goal apiece. Haley Trudell, Alyssa Ruefenacht, and Kim Brello added assists. A rather quiet time was had by goalkeepers Emily Charash and Mossbarger.

 Comets 5, Bridgeport 0 – Against a worthy opponent, the Comets drove it home with goals by Casey Harkins, off a very nice assist from Kelsey Muniz, and Alyssa Ruefenacht whose patience paid off during a scramble in front of the net and an assist by Kim Brello. Portia Baudisch added some more offensive muscle while Brenna Kelly, Sarah Lyon, and Maddy Sieber put together a rock solid defense. Emily Charash had some great saves as she tended the net for the duration.

Comets 3, Bethel 1 – This final victory clinched a sweep of their U-10 bracket, with goals from Kelsey Muniz, Mikayla Kuligowski, and Kimberly Brello. Emily Charash handled the goal keeping once again, providing several saves.

GIRLS U10

Rockets 2, Galaxy 2 – For the Rockets, goals were scored by Hannah Booth and Emily Jerris. Kelly Coughlin played tough on defense, and Cate Haggerty was inspiring in goal. Claire Beiter played great on both sides of the ball. For Galaxy, goals were scored by Meghan Grimes and Sierra Mather. Excellent defensive play by Hanna Delia and great defensive play by Lauren Villamana and Morgan Goldstein.

 

BOYS TRAVEL U11

 Memorial Day Tournament Results: The White Lightning placed third out of seven teams in their division with a record of one win, three ties, and no losses.

 Newtown White Lightning 2, Danbury 2 – In a hard-fought match dominated by the White Lightning, Luca Imbimbo hit a powerful shot that bounced off a Danbury defender for the first score of the tournament. In the final minutes of the second half Anthony Vournazos made a great pass to Clay Gattey who tied the score. The midfield was controlled by Jeremy Doski, Constant Gregoire, and Sawyer Conrad. The defense was lead by Nathyn Horvath and Dillon Wikramnanyake.

 Newtown White Lightning 1, Milford United 1 – In another match dominated by Newtown, Clay Gattey scored early off a pass from Constant Gregoire. That was the end of the scoring in a defensively driven game until the final minute of play. A penalty kick on a questionable call gave Milford the ability to tie the score as time ran out. The strikers who controlled play throughout the game were Ryan King and Michael Cook who kept the pressure on Milford. Kevin Ovendorf was outstanding in goal with over seven saves and Knute Johnson worked with Kevin Droniak on the defense to shut down Milford.

 Newtown White Lightning 1, Redding Raiders 1 – Newtown’s only score was off a Luca Imbimbo penalty kick in the second half. The midfield was controlled by Michael Biancardi, Graham Hubbert, and Patrick Rowley. Sawyer Conrad, Michael Biancardi, and Michael Cook showed great speed at striker and Kaj Djonne was outstanding in playmaking. Kevin Droniak controlled the defense.

 Newtown 4, Stamford Hurricanes 0 – In a great game to end the tournament, the offense finally hit stride lead by Dillon Wikramnanyake who scored first off a great cross by Jeremy Doski. The next goal came off a scramble in front of the net when Patrick Rowley was able to dig out the ball and hit a shot by the goalie. The third goal was knocked in by Clay Gattey off an assist by Luca Imbimbo. The final goal came off a great cross by Knute Johnson that Ryan King was able to pick up and hit a header right over the outstretched hands of the goalie to close out the day. In a dominating performance on defense, Graham Hubbert was able to stifle the Stamford offense with support from Kaj Djonne. Anthony Vournazos was aggressive at Striker and Kevin Ovendorf had the shutout in net.
