Newtown Lightning Gold 8, RELax U11 Black 4 â Newtown controlled the game and won the ground ball battle, coming up with 49 ground balls compared to 28 for RELax. Ground ball leaders on the day were defenseman Stephen Ferrigno with seven, Nick Rubino with five and C.J. Dunn with four. Scoring was led by Brandon Powell with three goals and Colin Smalkais with two. Single goals were scored by Bubba Condon, Michael Braddick, and Christian Hoffman.
Amity 11, Newtown Lightning White 4 â Newtownâs scoring was lead by Nicholas Genovese with one goal and two assists. Quinn Helmig had a goal and an assist. Also scoring goals were Austin Carfi and Bobby Haskins. Patrick Conte, Charlie Fletcher, Matt Meyers, Scott Bauer and Peyton Manning each scooped four ground balls. Kenny Barber played a great all-around game and Christian Morlock had another great day in the cage as goalie.
Newtown Junior Gold Boys 5, RELax 4 â In itâs third overtime game of the year, Newtown Junior Gold finally came out on the winning side as Tyler Hanley got the winning score in the extra session. Jacob Newton-Tanzer lead the team with two goals and two assists. Alec Beauchmin and Chris Barrett also scored goals. Adding assists were J.P. Kitzmiller and John Meyers. The defense was lead by KC Condon, Pat Thornberg, Tom Bauer, and Jack Kearney. Casey Fuller had 11 saves in goal to help cap off the victory.
New Milford U-13 Green 5, Newtown Junior Blue Boys 3 â Highlights for Newtown included a brilliant goal by Robby Lasher, and other scores by Bradley Kretz and Anders Fogelberg.
Danbury Orange 8, Newtown Junior Blue Boys 7 â Great goaltending by Andrew Volkers and a dominant performance on defense by Patrick Cain helped Junior Blue compete against the Danbury squad. Volkers had 14 saves and Cain produced several take-away checks and ten ground balls. On offense, Patrick Reilly and Matt Bouton each scored two goals. Late fourth quarter goals by Logan Walsh and Brenton Scott tied the game and sent it into overtime. Danbury scored the winning goal in the final seconds of the extra session.
Trumbull 9, Newtown Junior Gold Girls 7 â Newtownâs fifth and sixth grade girls rallied and played hard against the sixth/seventh grade team from Trumbull. After Newtown came back from a 5-1 deficit to eventually pull ahead 6-5, Trumbull put more into the net down the stretch to secure the win.
Bantam Girls Travel 8, New Milford 7 â In a defensive battle, Sydney DiMartino and Casey Harkins scooped seven ground balls each to keep the ball away from the opponent. Celia Gold and Claudia Morris had two assists each. Michaela Hall and Robin Rockwell picked off two passes at midfield. Goals were scored by Charlotte Stenz, Brianna Sclafani, Kelly Olsen, Brittany Meisenheimer, Nikki Zaccaro, and Casey Harkins.
