Jenna Calandro set the Class LL record by pole vaulting 12-01, and teammates Amy Anyoha and Michaela Nowacki gave Newtown High School a one-two finish in the discus event in the Class LL outdoor track and field state championship meet at Danbury High School, June 4–5. The Nighthawks placed fourth as a team; Staples High of Westport won the meet, which was suspended for a day because of rain.

Calandro bested a mark that stood since 2012 when Lexie Schachne, of Staples, pole vaulted 12 feet. The Nighthawks excelled in the field events, with Anyoha throwing the discus 111-08 and Nowacki not far behind with a toss of 111-02. Annika Alexander gave Newtown three finishers among the top ten in the discus throw with a 99 foot effort, good for sixth place.

Anyoha also earned fourth in the shot put event with a throw of 32-02.25. High jumper Cameron Vazquez cleared the bar at 4-10 to earn sixth place.

Newtown showed some speed on the track, too, as Hailey Conrad earned fourth place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 59.11, and Jillian Vazquez earned eighth in the 100 hurdles, coming across the finish line in 17.47.

The Newtown boys had one point-getter as Cole Terry tied for seventh place in the high jump competition with a leap of 5-10.
