DCF Incident Draws Heavy Police Presence In Greenbriar-Park Lane Neighborhood

On Tuesday, June 3, Newtown Police were dispatched to the area of Park and Greenbriar Lanes around 2 pm to assist Department of Children and Families (DCF).

A 26-year-old Newtown resident barricaded herself inside the residence. As a result, several more Newtown police officers and state police officers, including a SWAT team, responded to the scene. At least one Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps crew was also dispatched to the area. Police closed Greenbriar and Park Lanes to through traffic.

Parents picked students up from buses at the intersection of Greenbriar Lane and South Main Street as the roads were closed during typical drop-off time.

Newtown Police report the incident was isolated, and there was no threat to the public. Officers remained outside the home and attempted to communicate with the woman inside. At approximately 4:45 pm, the woman fled from the residence on foot and was placed under arrest. Following the suspect’s arrest, the roads were reopened to through traffic.

The woman was treated at Danbury Hospital for a laceration received prior to her arrest, and one regional police officer suffered a minor injury from the suspect as she was taken into custody.

The suspect has been charged with risk of injury to a child, criminal trespass in the first degree, larceny in the sixth degree, interfering with an officer/resisting arrest, and two counts of assault on a public safety/EMT/transit/health personnel. She was was arraigned at the Danbury Superior Court on Wednesday, June 4.
