Shetty And Brady Capture Track State Championships

Newtown High School's girls' and boys' track and field teams competed in the Class L State Championships at Willow Brook Park in New Britain on June 1. Both squads had individual event winners as Aashni Shetty won the long jump competition and Elias Brady captured the triple jump title. As a team the girls were seventh with 45.5 points and the boys eighth with 37.

Shetty's long jump was 16-11; teammate Violet Assante-LaBash earned seventh in the event with a 15-11. Shetty also placed second in the triple jump with a 34-11; Assante-LaBash was ninth with a 32-06.25.

Brady's winning triple jump was 44-09.50. Brady also placed second in the long jump with a 21-06.75; Tanner Smith came in fourth in the long jump with a 20-07.

Lola Kessler came in third in the pole vault event clearing the bar at 9-06. Jamie Humphreys was eighth in the javelin throw with a 90-04; teammate Mackenzie Penrod was 11th with an 84-00.

The 4x800 relay team comprising Natalie delCampo, Leah Morris, Clare Csaszar, and Ana Morris was fourth in a time of 1:05.25. The 4x100 team of Summer-Rose Chaljub, Brynn Lozer, Abigail Manka, and Kessler was tenth in 51.78. The 4x400 team of Grace Lyons, delCampo, Rachael Albrecht, and Kessler was fourth in 4:10.02.

Shetty took fifth in the 100 hurdles in a time of 15.81. Lyons was fourth in the 400 in 59.65.

Anna Parsons was 12th in the high jump with a 4-08. Faith Weir was 11th in the discus throw with an 87-02.

Jayden Taylor took fourth in the 110 hurdles in 15.01 and fifth in the 300 hurdles clocking in at 41.32.

In the 1600 Ubay Dissa placed 11th in 4:38.26. Noah Kooper was 11th in the 200 in 23.40. Orion Lowery placed seventh in the 3200 in 9:52.14.

Owen Sullivan came in eighth in the high jump clearing 5-10. Guilherme Magalhaes recorded a seventh-place discus throw with a 121-11.
