Pair Arrested In String Of Six House Burglaries

Police have solved a string of six residential burglaries that occurred from early March to early May in which the burglars stole items with an overall value of more than $65,000, most of which were pieces of jewelry, Detective Sergeant Darlene Froehlich said this week.

Police arrested two local people on multiple charges in the investigation.

Police arrested Caitlin Durkin, 22, of 4 Wine Sap Drive on 16 charges, and Chris Bergeron, 24, of 20 Bonnie Brae Drive, on ten charges.

Police said the burglaries occurred during the daytime at individual houses on Berkshire Road, Madison Drive, Boggs Hills Road, John Beach Road, and at two houses on Cedar Hill Road. It was unclear before the deadline for this edition of The Bee whether any of the stolen items have been recovered.

Det Sgt Froehlich said Detectives Jason Frank, Joe Joudy, and Daniel McAnaspie worked together on the investigation, which involved much effort to solve the crimes.

Police said they hold an arrest warrant for a third unidentified person who was a co-conspirator in the crimes.

Durkin was arraigned the charges on June 2; Bergeron was arraigned on May 25.

Police charged Durkin with two counts each of conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, criminal liability for third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny, and criminal liability for third-degree larceny. Durkin also was arrested on one count each of third-degree larceny by possession, second-degree larceny by possession, conspiracy to commit second-degree burglary, criminal liability for second-degree burglary, failure to obey a stop sign, traveling at an unreasonable speed, engaging police in pursuit, and disobeying a police signal to stop.

Durkin is being held on $50,000 bail at York Correctional Institution in Niantic for an upcoming appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Police charged Bergeron with two counts each of third-degree burglary and criminal liability for third-degree burglary. Police also charged him with one count each of conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny, criminal liability for third-degree larceny, third-degree larceny by possession, second-degree larceny by possession, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny, and criminal liability for third-degree larceny.

Bergeron is being held on $49,950 bail at Bridgeport Correctional Center for upcoming an appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
