Bad Check

Police report they charged Arthur Gottfried, 44, of 73 Bennetts Bridge Road, Sandy Hook, on a warrant June 8 alleging one count of issuing a bad check in connection with a check issued for an unspecified amount to a local veterinarian in October 1999.

Police released Gottfried on a promise to appear June 20 in Danbury Superior Court.

DWI Checkpoint

Police said they charged Pedro F. Delgado, Jr, 26, of Trumbull with driving while intoxicated on Mile Hill Road early on the morning of June 10. Police said they stopped Delgado during a sobriety checkpoint, which they had set up at the intersection of Mile Hill Road and Trades Lane on the Fairfield Hills campus.

Delgado failed sobriety testing and was charged, police said. After processing, he was released on a promise to appear June 27 in Danbury Superior Court.

I-84 DWI

State police report they charged motorist James T. Newsome, 29, of Danbury with driving while intoxicated and failure to drive in the established lane on westbound Interstate-84 near Exit 9 in Hawleyville about 1:15 am June 10.

After processing, state police released Newsome on a $500 non-surety bond for a June 19 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

 

Exit 11 DWI

State police said they charged motorist Kyla M. Northrup, 35, of Southington with driving while intoxicated about 1:30 am June 8 on westbound Interstate-84 near Exit 11. State police also charged her with failure to drive in the established lane and with a seatbelt violation.

After processing, state police released Northrup on a $500 non-surety bond for a June 21 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

 

Public Indecency

State police report an incident of public indecency occurred about 6 pm June 6 on westbound Interstate-84 between Exits 11 and 10.

State police said a Southbury woman told them June 7 that while she was driving on the highway the previous day, a white man, who was driving a green Mercury Villager minivan alongside her moving vehicle, masturbated. The identity of the offender is unknown. State police are investigating the incident.

Heavy Traffic

State police said that in heavy rush hour traffic on eastbound Interstate-84 near Exit 9 about 4:30 pm June 9, motorist James E. Farina, III, 25, of Waterbury, who was driving a 1999 Pontiac sedan, slowed down and was struck from behind by motorist Thomas J. Jeffreys, 44, of Waterbury, who was driving a 1988 Ford coupe. There were no injuries.

State police said Jeffreys failed to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Interstate Collision

State police report that in congested traffic on westbound Interstate-84 about 11 pm June 9, motorist John Raymond Rafter, 50, of Woodlands, Texas, who was driving a 2000 Mitsubishi Mirage, sideswiped a 2000 Peterbilt tractor-trailer driven by William Jester, 46, of Terrell, Texas. There were no injuries. State police said they issued Rafter a summons in the case.

Hawleyville Accident

Police report a two-car accident about 5 pm June 13 at Exit 9 of Interstate-84 in Hawleyville.

Police said motorist Allison Spink, 16, of  Lake Peekskill, N.Y., who was driving a 1997 Saturn station wagon, was turning from the end of the eastbound I-84 Exit 9 off-ramp onto northbound Hawleyville Road and drove into the path of southbound motorist Barbara A. Nelson, 53, of Bethel, who was driving a 1997 Ford Taurus. The Ford struck the Saturn, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Spink an infraction ticket on a charge of failure to grant the right of way after making a stop at a stop sign.

Truck Vs Minivan

Police said motorist Lisa M. Davies, 42, of Easton, who was driving a 2000 Dodge Caravan minivan eastbound on Church Hill Road east of the Queen Street about 4 pm June 1, was slowing down for a stopped vehicle when the Dodge was struck from behind by an eastbound 1998 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Michael R. Grigas, 23, of Danbury.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps checked Davies and a child passenger, police said. Police issued Grigas an infraction ticket on a charge of following too closely.

Wet Night

Police report motorist Dolores Lonbre, 54, of Canton, Mass., who was driving a 1997 Toyota sedan southbound on Hawleyville Road just north of Currituck Road about 9:30 pm June 6, lost control of the car while negotiating a curve on the wet road and hit a tree and rolled over. Lonbre was not injured, police aid. Police said they issued Lonbre a written warning for making  a restricted turn.

Forgery/Larceny

Police report they charged Jessica Rose, 20, of 16 Lori Lynne Circle on a warrant June 14 at Danbury Superior Court. The arrest warrant lists 10 counts of third-degree forgery and one count of third-degree larceny.

Police said the case involves Rose’s alleged forgery of 10 personal checks, which were cashed on separate occasions in July 1999. Police said Rose was arraigned on the charges in court that day.

Shoplifting

Police said store security personnel at TJ Maxx in Sand Hill Plaza on South Main Street observed Verchelino M. Contreras, 26, of Danbury putting clothing into his pants and then leaving the store without paying for the merchandise about noon June 14.

Police transported Contreras to the police station and charged him with sixth-degree larceny. Police released him on a $500 bond for a June 28 appearance in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charge.

Knife Incident

Police said a large group of teenage youths were involved in an altercation late June 14 in the parking lot at Newtown Shopping Village on Queen Street.

Police said Peter Stewart, 17, of Danbury allegedly pulled a knife in the incident and an unidentified 16-year-old female received a minor finger cut.

Danbury police later located Stewart in Danbury. Newtown police transported Stewart to the Newtown police station where they charged him with reckless endangerment and threatening. Police released him on a promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court June 29.

Motorcycle Accident

Police said motorcyclist Erica Green, 17, of 22 Tunnel Road was driving a Yamaha motorcycle from a driveway at 18 Lake Road about 12:07 am June 8 when she lost control of the vehicle, crossed the road, hit a curb, and struck several trees. Richard Novia, 17, of 18 Lake Road was a passenger on the motorcycle, police said.

Green, who received a full body sprain and a right knee injury, was transported to Danbury Hospital by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, police said. Novia, who received a hand injury, was transported to that hospital by his father, police said.

Police said they took no enforcement action in the accident.

Branch Onto Car

Police said a 1999 Kia Sephia being driven southbound on Elm Drive about 9:15 pm June 11 by Laure Cantagrel, 20, of France was struck by a falling tree branch during a storm. Cantagrel was not injured and no enforcement action was taken, police said.

Rear End Collision

Police said motorist Andrea J. Morris, 23, of Ilion, N.Y., who was driving a 1989 Honda Accord on South Main Street near Holcomb Fuel, was stopped behind a line of stopped traffic about 4:15 pm June 14 when the Honda was hit from behind by a 1996 Ford box truck driven by Muhamed Dedic, 36, of Bridgeport. The box truck had two passengers in the front seat, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Morris to Danbury Hospital to be checked out, police said. Police charged Dedic with following too closely and having an overcrowded front seat.
