Performance Art For Children

RIDGEFIELD — Can a person become a work of art? In conjunction with The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art’s summer performance art series “Acts of Art,” performance artist and playwright Jane Philbrick will guide children ages seven to ten in a series of exercises focused on nurturing the individuality and boundless creativity this art form inspires.

On Friday, June 30, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, the entire museum will be transformed into a performance art laboratory where participants will experiment with the elements at work in this unique art form: immediacy, repetition, personal expression, environment, sound, time and movement.

Jane Philbrick is an artist and writer living in Redding. Her work has been presented at theaters in London and New York, and recently in galleries in New York. She is currently preparing a solo exhibition for Bill Maynes Gallery in New York City and is a recent MacDowell Colony and Ragdale Foundation resident.

Cost of the workshop is $20 per child and advance registration is strongly suggested as the workshop is limited to only 15 participants.

The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art is in Ridgefield at 258 Main Street. For directions and reservations, call the museum at 203/438-4519.
