Coverts Project Seeks Participants

The state is seeking concerned forestland owners who want to learn more about forest and wildlife management in exchange for a commitment to publicly share that acquired knowledge with others.

The educational program, known as The Coverts Project, is jointly sponsored by the University of Connecticut Cooperative Extension System, The Ruffed Grouse Society, and The Connecticut Forest and Park Association. A covert is a thicket that provides sheltering habitat for wildlife.

Coverts Project participants attend an in-depth seminar combining indoor and outdoor training. Program costs are covered by the sponsoring agencies in exchange for participants’ commitment to share the information that they learned with others.

This year’s coverts program will be held at the Yale University Forestry Camp at Great Mountain Forest in Norfolk from September 4 to 7.

Local residents who are interested in participating in The Coverts Project may contact local coverts cooperator Robert Eckenrode at 270-9779.
