On Friday, June 6, the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Connecticut came through Newtown around 12:30 pm. Every year, law enforcement officers, as well as some Garner Correctional Staff, run the torch through the state of Connecticut to Southern Connecticut State University’s campus in New Haven.

The path in Newtown began at the Bethel line on Route 302 at Dodgingtown Market & Deli and Dodgingtown Fire, and is carried on Route 302, crosses the intersection of Sugar Street and Main Street, goes down Glover Road, onto Queen Street, and down Church Hill Road towards Sandy Hook. The runners, which were joined by members of Newtown Unified Sports, stopped at Blue Colony Diner for a group photo before breaking for lunch. The torch was then brought to Southbury by Connecticut State Police.
