An Homage To Claude Saucy

WASHNIGTON — For four weeks, Washington Art Association will pay tribute to its late member Claude Saucy, who died suddenly last April at age 69. “Homage,” a collection of Mr Saucy’s etchings, woodcuts and paintings, will be on view June 24 to July 23.

The public is invited to the opening reception on Saturday, June 24, from 3 to 5 pm.

Mr Saucy arrived in the United States from his native Switzerland in 1966. He was chairman of Kent School’s art department and director of the school’s art gallery until his return to Europe in 1992. He was also chairman of Washington Art Association’s exhibition committee from 1984 to 1988.

During his tenure at WAA, Mr Saucy began what is now an annual event, WAA’s “Young Talent Show.”

Mr Saucy’s work has been widely exhibited and are included in the collections of several museums, including Museum of Modern Art in New York City, Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, and Museum Zu Allerheiligen in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. His work is also part of many corporate and private collections.

Washington Art Association is in Bryan Plaza, on Route 47 in Washington Depot. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm; Sunday, 2-5 pm. Call 860/868-2878 for further information.
