Fellowship Opportunities Being Offered By Commission On The Arts

HARTFORD — The Connecticut Commission on the Arts has announced that Artist Fellowship applications are available to resident artists working in the disciplines of choreography, music composition, fiction writing, playwriting, poetry and film/video. The deadline for receipt of applications is September 18.

The purpose of the fellowship program is to encourage the continuing artistic development of Connecticut’s finest creative artists who are seriously committed to their art form and who have a demonstrated history of professional activity in the state.

The program provides direct support to artists to set aside time to work, to purchase supplies and equipment, to rent studio or office space, and to devote full attention to the creation of new work.

Twenty to thirty awards are made each year in the amounts of $2,500 and $5,000. Awards are determined by artist peer panels based on the quality of the applicant’s work. Artistic categories alternate every year; visual artists will be eligible for fellowships in the year 2001.

Program guidelines and application forms for artist fellowships are available for download from the Commission on the Arts web site at www.ctarts.org/artfellow.htm or by calling the agency at 860/566-4770. Application materials may also be picked up at the commission’s offices at 755 Main Street, One Financial Plaza, Hartford.
