Mattatuck Extends ‘Touch Of Light’

WATERBURY — “Tough of Light,” a major exhibit currently on view at The Mattatuck Museum, has been extended through July 31. The collection of 48 paintings represents American Tonalist Masters including works by Albert Bierstadt, Ralph Blakelock, George Inness, Jasper Cropsey, Ernest Lawson, Everett Shinn, John Singer Sargent, Elihu Vedder, Worthington Whittredge, and J. Alden Weir.

The paintings were gifted to the museum’s permanent collection earlier this year by Mildred Thaler Cohen of New York City. They are part of the private collection she and her first husband, Seymour R. Thaler, assembled.

The collection was one of the first private collections to focus on American artistic accomplishments, and the gift represents the largest acquisition to its collection the museum has ever received.

Admission to the museum is $4 for adults, and free for visitors age 15 and under. The Mattatuck Museum is at 144 West Main Street in Waterbury. It can be reached at 203/753-0381.
