Boy Scout Bicycle Collection Sat.
Zach Baudisch, a member of Newtown Boy Scout Troop 370, will be collecting bicycles this weekend as part of his Eagle Scout project.
Zach will be set up to receive donations on the front lawn of Newtown Middle School, 11 Queen Street, from 10 am until 2 pm.
The bicycles will then be shipped to underdeveloped countries in Africa.
âDonated bicycles become a valuable commodity for trade, employment, transportation, and local government,â said Zach. âMedical people in remote areas rely on the bicycle to get them to villages not accessible by roads. Without these âmobile bike medics,â people in these villages would not get the vaccines or medical attention they need. By giving bicycles to people in underdeveloped countries I will be empowering these people to be self-sufficient.
âThis project is bigger than just collecting bicycles,â he continued, âitâs about helping developing world economies by promoting self-sustaining bicycle repair businesses, and it is about improving the lives of others and the positive impact they will make on their world.â
In addition to the bicycles, Zach will be accepting donations to help cover the cost of shipping, which is $30 per bicycle.
âDonated bikes and shipping cost donations are tax deductible,â he reminds residents.
