Breaking Records

A pair of Newtown High School track and field records were broken this spring – by the girls’ 4x800 relay team (below) and the boys’ 4x400 relay team (above). The girls’ 4x800 foursome of (starting second from left) Alli Frobey, Sarah MacKnight, Brittney Rayzor and Melanie Murphy set the new school mark at 9:59.5 while finishing second at the South-West Conference meet. They are pictured with tri-captain Whitney Blanchard who, along with the 4x800 team, qualified for the CIAC State Open. The boys’ 4x400 foursome of Tom Fullman, Pete Stephenson, Cuyler Bryant and Kyle Tobin set the new mark of 3:32.17, breaking a 13-year-old record of 3:33.60 set by Matt Johnson, Dave Urhlass, Chris Iannini and Ian Ramsey.
