Africa's Children Cry Out
Africaâs Children Cry Out
To the Editor:
In several of the far-off countries of Africa, hundreds and even thousands of children of all ages are dying due to uncontrolled tribal strife and more recently an extended drought. These kids have little food and water and simply stated are starving to death. Unfortunately these children have become the victims of this unholy situation and have no way to fend for themselves. The pictures you see on TV and in the newspapers are heartbreaking as little ones are shown lying in the streets, bleeding and bloated, screaming for help; itâs heartbreaking to say the least. They deserve a better life as they are Godâs Children.
In an effort to help, the Menâs Club of the Newtown Congregational Church has taken on a fundraising effort to support the efforts of Feed the Children, a nonprofit, Oklahoma-based Christian world food supplier with distribution points in many of the African crisis areas. To date the club has raised more than $2,000 from congregational donations to FTC with more on the way. Yes, this would probably be considered a small amount by todayâs standards, but it is a start and will help feed some of the starving children for a short while. No one, especially children, should have to live under these inhumane conditions.
During the many years living here in Newtown, I have come to know a lot of wonderful people, many through church activities, that are compassionate in nature and willing to help when the need is there. We feel that helping these poor defenseless African children, suffering beyond belief, must be helped and maybe through this letter some donations will come forth for this purpose. Iâm sure God will approve and smile upon this activity.
If anyone would like to help and join this effort, checks should be made out to Feed the Children â African Countries and sent to Feed the Children, PO Box 36, Oklahoma City OK 73101
Thanks and God Bless You.
