Edward John Small, son of Mr and Mrs Stephen Small of Sandy Hook, graduated summa cum laude from Dickinson College, Carlisle, Penn., on May 23 with a bachelor of the arts in history. Other recognition included dean’s list and Phi Beta Kappa.

Two local students graduated from the University of New Hampshire during a commencement ceremony held on Saturday, May 22, in Durham. Dana Lynn Happel of Sandy Hook earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing with summa cum laude distinction and Jillian Ann Tanner earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing with magna cum laude distinction. Students who received the honor of summa cum laude graduated with a GPA of 3.7 through 4.0 and students who received the honor of magna cum laude graduated with a GPA of 3.50 through 3.69.

Local resident and Drew University, Madison, N.J., student Jennifer K. Nikola was named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2010 semester. To qualify for the Dean’s List, students at the university must earn a grade point average of 3.4 or above.

Western Connecticut State University recently released the names of local residents who earned graduate and undergraduate degrees this year from the university. Danielle Alpert received a masters of fine Arts degree in visual arts, Edmund Breitling received a master of health administration degree, Eugene Fox received a master of arts degree in history, Kimberly Hudock received a master of science degree in school counseling, Stephen Yudelson received a master of arts degree in history, Alexandra Helfer of Sandy Hook received a master of science in clinical mental health counseling, Emily Howard of Sandy Hook received a master of science degree in education/curriculum, Michael Obre of Sandy Hook received a doctor of education degree in instructional leadership, Meghan Rajczewski of Sandy Hook received a master of business administration degree, Teresa Samuelson of Sandy Hook received a doctor of education degree in instructional leadership, and Doreen Shevlin of Sandy Hook earned master of science degree in education/special education.

Newtown residents who received undergraduate degrees from WCSU are Richard Andrews, Brandon Ballard, Jesse Birden, Clay Brier, Rebecca Davila, Jessica Demont, Bryan Fogelstrom, Adam Gruendig, Erica Helsel, Daniel Mortensen, Laurel Nosal, Sarah Paschall, Aditya Sandhu, Nicole Sieber, Diana Siebert, Zachariah Silver, Rebecca Stephens, James Tanner, Kristen Tanski, Theresa Villafano, Jason Weber, Karen Whippie, Andrew Zimmerman, and Christie Zingoni. Sandy Hook residents who received undergraduate degrees from WCSU are Christopher Berchem, Adam Berlingeri, Phousisongkham Chokbengboune, Sarah Colacurcio, Lauren Gully, Christopher Hoagland, Scott Jackson, Kayla Koschel, Melissa Metzger, Laura Nadriczny, Rebecca Narel, Lesley Oberstadt, Steven Santaniello, Christie Shriver, Evan Valente, and Kate Veccharelli.

Brandon Leon-Gambetta and Erin McDonald of Sandy Hook were named on the Dean’s List for King’s College, Wilkes-Barre, Penn. Students must earn a grade point average of 3.4 or higher to earn the Dean’s List recognition at the school.

Jenna Van Waalwijk was named on the Dean’s List at Muhlenberg College, Allentown, Penn. Students must earn a minimum of a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale to attain Dean’s List status at the college.

Michael Cash, son of Lori and Dave Cash, graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree double major in international affairs and anthropology from Northeastern University, Boston, on May 7. Michael was also named to the university’s Dean’s List for the spring semester. Along with Michael, residents Kyle Kennedy, Amanda LaPorta, Corey Regensburger of Sandy Hook, and Ashley Rothacker of Sandy Hook were also named to the school’s Dean’s List.

George F. O’Donnell of Sandy Hook received a juris doctor degree from Western New England College, Springfield, Mass., on May 22.

 Also at Western New England College, Michael S. Poeltl, and Rachael A. Marlin, Gabriella C. Ruggiero, and Caitlin N. Tefft, all of Sandy Hook were named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester at the college. Students are named to the Dean’s List for achieving a semester grade point average of 3.30 or higher.

Jeanette D. Murphy of Sandy Hook graduated with a master of business administration from Pace University, New York City, recently, according to the school.

Kara Gardner of Sandy Hook was named on Delaware Valley College’s, in Doylestown, Penn., list of 2010 graduates.

Tufts University, Medford, Mass., named Michael Mangerella of Sandy Hook as one of more than 3,000 students who graduated from the university on May 23 during a commencement ceremony. Michael was also named to the spring semester’s Dean’s List at the university.

Stonehill College, Easton, Mass., named Sandy Hook resident Adam A. Horvath to its Dean’s List for the spring semester.
