Sand Hill Plaza—

Robber Holds Up Clerk At Electronic Game Store

By Andrew Gorosko

Police are investigating a robbery that occurred late on the morning of Sunday, June 13, at the GameStop electronic game store at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street (Route 25).

There were no injuries in the incident in which a lone male stole an unspecified amount of money from a male store cashier, according to police.

Police said the robber, who was described as a white man about 30 years old with a goatee beard, handed the cashier a note at about 11:26 am. The note indicated that the robber had a handgun and demanded cash. The cashier gave the man some money and the robber fled the scene. The robber did not display a weapon, according to police.

Police said the robber was wearing a blue sweatshirt and a University of Michigan baseball cap at the time of the incident.

“It’s a serious matter,” said Police Chief Michael Kehoe.

Robberies, in which a person uses force or threatens the use of force to steal items from another person, is a relatively unusual crime locally. The last local robbery occurred early on the morning of April 3 at Newtown Mobil at 62 Church Hill Road. Police are investigating that incident.

Chief Kehoe said police have the note that the robber handed to the game store clerk. The police chief declined to say whether police have any leads or suspects in the case.

“Our detectives are investigating it,” he said.

Police are studying video surveillance records of the incident in seeking to learn the identity of the robber. No surveillance photos of the incident were available for publication.

Although there were some people in the store besides the robber and the cashier at the time of the incident, those people apparently were unaware that a robbery was taking place, police said.

Police ask anyone with information about the robbery to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.
