School Bus Crash
Police report that Leema Jackson, 35, of Stratford was driving a school bus carrying seven passengers northward on Berkshire Road (Route 34), just north of Great Quarter Road, about 3 pm June 14, when Jackson swerved the bus in order to avoid striking a rock located off of the roadway.
The bus, however, struck that rock, left the roadway and then struck an even larger rock, police said. There were no injuries.
Police said that the school bus, which is owned by St. Vincentâs Special Needs Center of Trumbull, carried seven passengers ranging in age from 14 to 48.
Police said they issued Jackson an infraction for making restricted turn.
Vandalism Investigated
Sometime between 3 pm on June 11, and 10 am on June 14, someone damaged an earthmoving vehicle, known as an excavator, which was parked near the intersection of Hanover Road and Boulevard Extension, police said. The vandal threw a rock through the excavatorâs windshield. Police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact Officer John McCluskey at 203-426-5841.
Intersection Accident
Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Church Hill Road and Walnut Tree Hill Road about 8 am June 14.
Motorist Marinete Conway, 46, of Danbury, who was driving a 2004 Honda Element SUV eastward on Church Hill Road, was attempting to make a left turn onto northbound Walnut Tree Hill Road after the driver of a westbound noncontact vehicle on Church Hill Road signaled for the Honda to make that left turn, police said.
As the Honda was making the left turn, the Honda was struck by motorist Jana Hammond, 29, of 18 Pine Street, who was driving a 2003 Subaru Legacy station wagon westward on Church Hill Road, police said. When the accident occurred, the Subaru was passing stopped westbound vehicles on the right, police said.
Police said that Hammond told them she thought that Church Hill Road has two westbound lanes in that area.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Hammond an infraction for passing on the right, and also verbally warned Hammond for failure to carry a vehicle registration.
