Slamma Jamma Basketball Camp

Slamma Jamma Basketball, sponsored by Newtown Parks and Recreation, has released its schedule for the summer.

A new feature will be the Game Camp Program with a full game each afternoon. The age limits have been increased for these sessions, with the drills and activities being adjusted accordingly.

The camps are directed by Bob Ruderman, former head basketball coach at Naugatuck Valley Community College, and the National Juco Coach of the Year 1988, and New England Basketball Hall of Fame. Dean Accetura, former men’s coach at Woodland Regional High School, directs the full-day program.

The half-day program is directed by Jay Say, assistant men’s coach at State Champion Sacred Heart High School of Waterbury, and the very popular Jen Valente, who has just completed her career at the University of Lowell. The staffs are made up of college and high school coaches and players.

The camp’s goal is a positive approach to the game of basketball. Groups are divided by age, ability, size, and experience in all sessions

The full day camp 9 am to 3 pm for boys and girls ages 7 to 14 offers a schedule of games, individual and team skill drills, contests, emphasizes shooting, passing, ball handling, and rebounding.

The primary goals of the program are to help campers develop a love for the game, have fun, and develop their individual skills.

A half-day session for boys and girls ages 7 through 14 has been added during the week of June 28.

The half-day sessions 9 am to noon for boys and girls ages 5 to 9 has lower baskets and smaller basketballs, with a fun-filled schedule of games contests, skill sessions, and relays.
