Storm Rolls To Soccer Championship
After losing to Fairfield, 2-1, in a barn burner earlier in the day for its first league loss of the season, The Storm, Newtownâs U11 boysâ soccer team, came roaring back after an inspirational speech from Coach Antony Howard. The Storm defeated Greenwich 4-1 to win the League Championship.
Hayes Kelchner had his third hat-trick of the year to lead the team in scoring, and Richard Ciamarra had a blast from the top of the box late in the game to close out the scoring. Michael Meyers, Thomas Leuci, and Nate Augenbraun had multiple shots on goal. Sharp footwork by Owen Samson, the shifty passes of Shane Gattey, the speedy Sebastian Forero, and the tenacious Sam Grossano help the team to victory. Once again Jamie Cochrane led a physical defense which included strong play by Forest Weatherby and Jack Riley. Goalkeeper Robert Katrinak had numerous saves in the triumph.
