Alice Elizabeth Johnson
Alice Elizabeth (Backer) Johnson, 76, died June 13 after a long illness. She was the wife of Miller A. Johnson of Ridgefield and the mother of Jason Johnson of Newtown.
Mrs Johnson lived in Ridgefield for 35 years. She was a community activist from her earliest days, lending her energy and intelligence to many organizations over the years, including: Friends of the Ridgefield Library; League of Women Voters; American Association of University Women; Kappa Delta Sorority; and Jesse Lee Memorial Methodist Church. In addition, she taught as a substitute teacher at Ridgefield Junior High School, and was employed for several years at Sears in Danbury Fair Mall. Her fields of interest included education, finance, and gardening.
Mrs Johnson was born in Waverly, N.Y., and grew up there, along with her future husband. She graduated from Syracuse University and taught social studies before marrying in 1947. She raised four children while living in New York, Illinois, Kansas, and finally Ridgefield.
Mrs Johnson also is survived by three other children, Judith Maguire of Strafford, N.H., Betsy OâConnor of Arlington, Va.; and David Johnson of Annandale, Va.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Friends may offer their respects from 2:30 to 4:30 pm, on Friday, June 23, at Bouton Funeral Home, 31 West Church Street, Georgetown. Brief words of remembrance will be presented at 3 pm by Aliceâs son, for those who wish to be present.

Mrs Johnson will be buried in Waverly, N.Y.
