Laura Walker

Laura Walker, daughter of Jim and Jeanne Walker of Juniper Road, graduated from Sacred Heard University Physical Therapy Graduate Program on May 20th. Miss Walker was named valedictorian, graduating first in her class. She is a 1997 graduate of Providence College and a 1994 graduate of Immaculate High School in Danbury.

Kristen Bandura, a June 2000 graduate of Newtown High School, is the recipient of the McDonald’s 2000 (HACER) Scholarship and the Citizens Scholarship Foundation of America Inc. scholarship. Miss Bandura will be attending the University of Richmond in September as a biology/pre-Med major.

Tucker Smiley has been chosen as “Job Banker of the Month” for his outstanding work and attitude in the month of May. Tucker has been a member of the Job bank for eight months and is continually demonstrating qualities of an excellent Job Bank member.

Brook McKee, a graduate of Newtown High School, has been named to the Central Connecticut University’s Dean’s List in New Britain.

Sarah Letson, of Newtown High School, was among 38 high school juniors in Fairfield and New Haven who received a medal from Fairfield University’s School of Engineering and Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. for demonstrated excellence in mathematics and science.

Elizabeth Macmillan, a resident of Newtown and daughter of Gary and Beverly Macmillan, was a member of the 2000 graduating class. Miss Macmillan majored in marketing and plans to have a career in marketing research at IRI in Norwalk, CT.

Kurt C. Deschermeier and Courtney A. Elf, both of Newtown, were among 475 graduates to receive a bachelor’s degree May 29 from Bates College. Mr Deschermeier graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in classical and medieval studies. Miss Elf graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree and honors in music.

Colin N. Doniger

 Pvt. Colin N. Doniger, of 4 Saddle Ridge Road in Newtown, has successfully completed basic and advanced individual training as a US Army military policeman at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Pvt. Doniger received “exceptional achievement” on the Army’s physical fitness test. He will be working for the Army’s Danbury recruiting station during the month of June.

 Charles Sandifer, a graduate of Newtown High School, has been named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester at the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio.

 Terrence Bates, a 2000 graduate of Newtown High School, has received a renewable $3,000 Music Talent Award. He has been involved in the Newtown High Jazz band and Western Connecticut Regional Symphonic band. The son of Mr and Mrs John Bates of 16 Ox Hill Road, he plans to study music education in the fall.

 Kristin Schierloh, daughter of Ed and Carey Schierloh of Newtown, was named to the Cedarville College dean’s list for the 2000 Spring Quarter. Miss Schierloh is a junior majoring in elementary education.

 Kathryn Burns of Newtown has been named to the Keene State College dean’s list.

 Heather Christiano, Blinn Cirella, and Victoria Roland have all made it onto the dean’s list at Sacred Heart University for the spring 2000 semester.

 Erin Sepe, Sarah Kiernan, Stacey Baglio, Bryant Grayson, Garrett Denniston, Keegan Finlayson, Darrin Fodor, Krista Halstead, Gregory Hays, Stephanie Hays, Jonathan Hill, Alison Hills, Gina Masso, Michael Quartarone, Debra Ravetto, Sharon Hufner, Jedidah Kiernan, Jeffrey Metcalf, Kathleen Klusik, and Heather Martins have all made the dean’s list for the University of Connecticut for the spring 2000 semester.

Thomas Dyer

Thomas Dyer, a resident of Newtown and son of Robert and Joan Dyer, was a member of the 2000 graduating class of Fairfield University. Mr Dyer majored in finance and information systems. A graduate of Newtown High School, he plans a career at Ernst & Young, LLP, in New York City as a Financial Management Assistant.

Erica M. Forde, a resident of Sandy Hook and daughter of David and Janet Forde, was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2000 semester at Fairfield University. She is a graduate of Nonnewaug High School in Woodbury.
