Knights Of Columbus Install New Members
The Knights of Columbus Virgilius Council 185 officers were installed at the new Gathering Hall at St Rose School on Friday night, June 12. Grand Knight Jim Tevnan reviewed the extraordinary charitable accomplishments during this past year. More than 3,000 hours were donated by members of the council and their families to help those in need.
Activities included home repairs, delivery of clothing, food, and furniture to local service agencies, Lenten Fish Fries, The Toy Closet, Breakfast with Santa, The Irish Cabaret, and many more activities that assist people in the community. The evening also included a delicious meal prepared by Sal Cucco of Cuccoâs Italian Market on Main Street in Monroe.
Officers for 2009-10 are: Chaplain Monsignor Bob Weiss, Grand Knight Jim Tevnan, Deputy Grand Knight Tim Reilly, District Deputy Tom Kowalski, Financial Secretary Ron Kopcik, Treasurer Tim Haas, Chancellor Charlie Nostrand, Recorder Brian Liotta, 4th Degree John Mead, and Advocate Joe Moran.
Also: Trustee 1st Year John Moulder, Trustee 2nd Year Len Moritz, Trustee 3rd Year Jud Doyle, Warden Kirk Babyak, Inside Guard John Barry, and Outside Guard Chris Carney.
The Knights also recently sponsored a pancake breakfast fundraiser to benefit Sandy Hook resident Ken Ayles, who is courageously fighting brain cancer. The family was invited to join the Knights during their meeting so that they could be given a check that represented the result of that May 17 breakfast event.
Pancake breakfast organizers Mike Salvatore, Larry Rice, and Markus Balas presented a $6,300 check to Ken and Jennifer Ayles.
