Fran Taylor Named To UW

Alumni Board Of Directors

MADISON, WISC. — Frances (Shuter) Taylor, of Newtown, a retired investment banker, has been appointed to the Wisconsin Alumni Association (WAA) Board of Directors as a director-at-large.

Fran and her husband, Brad, make their permanent home at 1 Tamarack Road in Newtown. They live in the former Hanover District School (circa 1790), which will be included in this summer’s House & Garden tour sponsored by the Newtown Historical Society. Her two-year term will begin July 1, when she will replace Joanne Howard, who is to become the new assistant treasurer.

After graduating with honors from UW-Madison in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in education, Mrs Taylor spent two years teaching in the public school system. In 1970, she moved to New York and into the corporate realm, joining the investment banking/brokerage firm, Smith Barney (a predecessor firm to Citigroup’s Salomon, Smith Barney). During her seven years with the firm, she rose from administrative assistant/registered representative in their main brokerage office to second vice president in the Corporate Syndicate Department, the area of the firm that handles offerings of new issue securities and IPOs.

Mrs Taylor and her husband relocated to Caracas, Venezuela, in 1977, where she began a 21-year affiliation with Bank of America. While in Caracas, she arranged and syndicated international “jumbo” loan transactions for large corporations and entities throughout Latin America. In 1980, she moved back to New York with the bank and started a Loan Syndication Group to handle similar transactions in North America.

Mrs Taylor held many positions with the Bank of America in New York and San Francisco – the most recent as the senior vice president for strategic development, US & International Division.

For the four years prior to her 1998 retirement, Fran Taylor served as the executive vice president, managing director, and CEO of BA Asia Limited, Bank of America’s Hong Kong merchant banking subsidiary.

WAA has been serving US-Madison and its graduates for 140 years. WAA provides an array of services, including On Wisconsin, a quarterly alumni magazine; a national council to foster multicultural diversity; a career database program; and an extensive student relations program.
