A great time was had by all this past Saturday as the Newtown Bridle lands Association (NBLA) held its first spring hunter pace at the Second Company Governorâs Horse Guard facility at Fairfield Hills.
âWe were fortunate to have such a large turnout our first time hosting a spring hunter pace,â noted Missy Gregson, one of the eventâs organizers.
There were 74 entries in all with champions in each of the three divisions. Congratulations are in order for the winners of the Hunt Division: Rosie Forte, Amanda and Roger Marks, winners of the Pleasure Division: Sgt Karen deFries and Pfc Melanie Norko, and the winners of the Western Division: Pat Carlucci and Diane Robinson.
The eight-mile course wound its way uphill and down, over fields, through wooded trails and a challenging water crossing. David MacCauley, a longtime resident and NBLA member, designed the shorter length course, keeping in mind it was a conditioning pace and less demanding that the 10-mile course he designs for the NBLA in the fall when most horses reach peak fitness.
The NBLA will host its annual Frost on the Pumpkin Hunter Pace this fall. For more information, call 791-4853.
