Annual Gift Commemorates Longstanding Tradition
Newtown Labor Day Parade Committee President Beth Caldwell visited C.H. Booth Library on June 13 to present to Library Director Brenda McKinley a framed poster of last year's Labor Day Parade program cover.
Presented on September 7, 2015, last year's parade had as its theme "Celebrating the Fine Art of Newtown!" The parade program featured a painting of 50 Main Street, the historic Budd House, as depicted by Ruth Newquist, longtime Newtown resident and the grand marshal of the 2015 parade.
The Parade Committee commemorates each year's parade with a similar gift to the town's library.
The 2016 Labor Day Parade is scheduled for Monday, September 5. It will step off at 10 am from the corner of Main Street and Currituck Road. The 55th annual parade will celebrate its emerald anniversary with the theme of "There's No Place Like Home," and it will honor Grand Marshal Dr Robert Grossman.
