Elliott Is The Featured Summer Artist At Little Gallery
WASHINGTON DEPOT â Sue Elliott of Litchfield, a self-taught artist who specializes in an expression of the early American way of life and New Englandâs Colonial towns, will be the featured artist in The Little Gallery, an offshoot of Washington Art Association, during the months of July and August.
Ms Elliott is a native of Newtown.
The artist has been inspired and influenced by folk artists and early American painters of the 19th Century including Grandma Moses, Will Moses and Edward Hicks. Having lived in New England most of her life, her paintings naturally reflect her appreciation of her New England heritage. Her paintings include familiar scenes of Washington, New Preston, Roxbury, Bridgewater, Southbury, Woodbury, Cornwall and Litchfield.
Also skilled in folk art trades, Ms Elliott paints scenes and creates designs to requests from clients who are looking for Colonial fireboards and canvas floorcloths. She cuts her own stencils incorporating nature, flowers, fruit and ferns, or early American patterns for stenciling on walls, floorcloths and wall hangings.
Ms Elliott has exhibited in the past at Washington Art Association member shows, as well as at The Mattatuck Museum (âConnecticut Vision,â 1997), Litchfield Arts & Crafts Show, Washington Green Fair and Southbury Spring Arts Festival. She has studied at Washington Art Association at Wooster Community Art Center in Danbury.
A reception for the artist will be presented at the gallery on Saturday, July 1, from 1 to 3 pm. The gallery is in Bryan Plaza, off Route 47 in Washington Depot. Ms Elliottâs works will remain on view through August 31.
