Hit Fence And Tree
Newtown Police report Dana Schafer, 19, of Trumbull, operating a 2025 Nissan Rogue, was traveling eastbound on Riverside Road and attempting to turn left onto Cherry Street at 11:02 am June 2. Schafer left the northbound roadway and struck fencing and a tree.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.
Schafer was issued a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Three Vehicles Towed Following Crash
Newtown Police report Sherril Paisley, 90, of Newtown, operating a 2012 Honda CR-V, was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road at 3:43 pm June 2. Paisley was traveling behind a 2024 Tesla Model 3 operated by Brandon Ballard, 39, of Sandy Hook. Arianna Hanley, 29, of Newtown, operating a 2017 Subaru Legacy, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road.
Ballard slowed and stopped for traffic ahead, and Paisley did not stop in time, rear ending Ballard's vehicle. Ballard's vehicle was pushed forward into the oncoming lane, where it was hit by Hanley's vehicle. Paisley's vehicle went off the road to the right of the eastbound lane.
Paisley and a passenger in Ballard's vehicle were transported to Danbury Hospital for possible injuries. All three vehicles were towed.
Paisley was issued an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Following Too Close
Newtown Police report David McCallister, 42, of New Britain, was traveling southbound on Hawleyville Road at 7:03 am June 3. He was traveling behind a 1993 Mazda Miata operated by Matthew Goduti, 40, of Newtown. Goduti stopped to make a left turn onto the Interstate 84 West exit 9 on ramp, and McCallister did not stop in time, rear ending his vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
McCallister was issued a verbal warning for following too close.
Evading Charge
Newtown Police report that on June 5, officers responded to Riverside Road for the report of an evading motor vehicle that had struck a tree on Alpine Circle. The vehicle was stopped by two bystanders who were concerned for the safety of the operator. The vehicle had suffered disabling front end damage. Police arrested Alexandra Pettengill, 18, of Newtown, and charged her with failure to carry an operator's license, evading responsibility for injury or property damage, and illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
She was released on a surety bond with a court date of June 17 in Danbury Superior Court.
Left Driveway, Hit Car
Newtown Police report that Lauren Jacobs, 19, of Newtown, operating a 2015 Subaru Forester, was traveling northbound out of a commercial parking lot on Hawleyville Road. Daniel Kazimierczak, 24, of New Britain, operating a 2008 Mazda6, was traveling westbound on Hawleyville Road. As Jacobs entered the roadway, her vehicle made contact with Kazimierczak's.
No injuries were reported. Kazimierczak's vehicle was towed.
Jacobs was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way at a private driveway. Kazimierczak was issued a written warning for failure to renew his license.
Resisting Arrest Charge
Newtown Police report officers responded to a report of an evading vehicle from a three vehicle motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Button Shop Road and Little Brook Lane on June 11. Clifford Burns, 44, of Norwalk, was identified as the operator of the evading vehicle and it was determined he was operating the motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While officers attempted to place Burns under arrest, Burns became non-compliant and resisted arrest before being taken into custody.
Burns was charged with resisting arrest, assault on a public safety officer, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, reckless driving, evading responsibility for property damage or injury, failure to maintain a lane and improper attachment on plates.
Burns was released on a cash bond with a court date of June 25 in Danbury Superior Court.
Unlicensed, Unregistered
Newtown Police report officers received a complaint of a black Dodge Charger driving fast through a parking lot at Dickinson Park behind the skate park at 9:24 am June 12. Officers observed the vehicle traveling southbound on South Main Street and initiated a traffic stop. Jaydden Garcia, 18, of Newtown, was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
Garcia was released on a promise to appear with a court date of June 26 in Danbury Superior Court.
One Injured, Both Vehicles Towed
Newtown Police report Fionna Charles, 19, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2013 Toyota Prius, was traveling southbound on Berkshire Road at 3:32 pm June 12. Sara Feica, 49, of Fairfield, operating a 2001 BMW 325CI, was traveling northbound on Berkshire Road. Charles attempted to turn left into the parking lot of Berkshire Motors and struck Feica's vehicle.
Feica suffered minor injuries. Both vehicles were towed.
Charles was issued an infraction for making a restricted turn. Feica was issued an infraction for operating an unregistered vehicle.
Rear Ended On Berkshire Road
Newtown Police report Alexander Rotas, 40, of Southbury, operating a 2024 Ford Transit, was traveling on Berkshire Road at 4:58 pm June 12. Anthony Nitopi, 38, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2019 Dodge Durango, was stopped at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Toddy Hill Road, waiting for the traffic signal to change. While turning onto Toddy Hill Road, Rotas struck Nitopi's vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Nitopi's vehicle was towed.
Rotas was issued an infraction for failure to drive right.
Erratic Driver Arrested
Newtown Police report officers responded to the area of Church Hill Road and Washington Avenue on the report of an erratic driver at 9:10 pm June 12. The driver was then involved in a motor vehicle accident when it collided with a garage door at a home on Ardi Court.
Kristine Alexander, 62, of Sandy Hook, was placed under arrest for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
DUI Charge
Newtown Police report officers responded to the area of South Main Street for the report of an erratic driver at 10:09 pm June 12. Officers located the vehicle on Mt Pleasant Road and conducted a traffic stop. The operator of the vehicle, Angel David Morocho-Carchi, was placed under arrest and charged with illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and failure to maintain a lane.
Morocho-Carchi was released on a bond with a court date of June 26 in Danbury Superior Court.
Tundra Hits Camry
Newtown Police report Roberto Schneider-Flores, 48, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2013 Toyota Tundra, was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road at 10:50 am June 13. He was traveling behind a 2017 Toyota Camry operated by Sarah Cox, 73, of Newtown, who in turn was traveling behind a non-contact vehicle. The non-contact vehicle stopped abruptly to turn right, causing Cox to brake suddenly. Shneider-Flores did not stop in time, rear-ending Cox's vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Shneider-Flores' vehicle was towed.
Schneider-Flores was issued a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Criminal Trover Charge
Newtown Police report Devante Bernhardt, 28, of Waterbury, was arrested on a warrant on June 13 for use of a vessel without permission and second-degree criminal trover.
Bernhardt was released on a $5,000 non-surety bond with a court date of June 27 in Danbury Superior Court.
Collision In Intersection
Newtown Police report Kyle Turk, 20, of Newtown, operating a 2011 BMW 335xi, was traveling westbound on Silo Road at 9:28 am June 14. Bryan Atherton, 55, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2022 Lexus RX 350, was traveling northbound on Yogananda Street. Turk turned left onto Yogananda Street while Atherton was attempting to turn right onto Silo Road and Turk's vehicle struck Atherton's vehicle.
Atherton reported a minor injury, but the police report was unclear if he was transported to the hospital. Both vehicles were towed.
Turk was issued an infraction for making a restricted turn and a verbal warning for failure to obey a stop sign. Atherton was issued a misdemeanor summons for operating while under suspension.
Evading Vehicle Sought
Newtown Police report a 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe owned by Christopher Evans of Newtown was parked unoccupied in a parking space in the lot of PJ's Laundromat on June 14. Between the hours of 3:53 pm and 8:12 pm, an unknown vehicle struck the front left door, causing functioning damage. The unknown vehicle then left the scene.
A criminal investigation in pending.
Reckless Driving Arrest
Newtown Police arrested Alano DosSantos, 25, of Danbury, at 10 am June 16, on the charges of two counts of reckless driving, engaging the police in pursuit, two counts of evading responsibility for injury or property damage, failure to comply with pass on the right rules, failure to drive in the proper lane, illegal operation of a motor vehicle without the proper license class, interfering with an officer/resisting arrest, and first-degree reckless endangerment. He was given a court date later that day in Danbury Superior Court.
