Booth Book Sale Gets A Green Light
Booth Book Sale Gets A Green Light

Following a formal endorsement by the ad hoc Fairfield Hills Management Committee, First Selectman Herb Rosenthal indicated Wednesday that the annual Friends of the Library Book Sale was all but a certainty for Labor Day weekend.
Although it remained certain the sale would not be taking place at its former venue, Bridgeport Hall, Friends President Mary Maki told The Bee Thursday morning that the book sale would be staged in and around the adjacent Newtown Hall. Until recently, the group had been restricted to planning for the sale in what sources said was a highly inadequate location across from the campus in a state-owned military warehouse facility.
âI understand the Fairfield Hills Committee voted to approve our use of Newtown Hall and the median outside where we will have a large tent to present the book sale,â Ms Maki said.
While it was initially thought that just the rare book sale would be conducted, Ms Maki said the space would be adequate for the full-scale event to be presented. Other sources maintained for months that the group was quite adamant that if the sale was to continue after restrictions were put on Bridgeport Hall, it would still have to be held on the Fairfield Hills campus.
