Police said they conducted a three-week enforcement project ending on June 19 that focused on moving violations including distracted driving and illegal use of a handheld cellphone while driving.
Motorists who were seen illegally using a handheld cellphone while driving were stopped and issued $100 fines for their illegal behavior, according to Lieutenant George Sinko.
During the enforcement project, police issued 162 cellphone violations to motorists, Lt Sinko said in a statement.
Among the other violations, police gave out eight infraction tickets and four written warnings for seatbelt violations; six infractions for driving unregistered vehicles; one infraction for driving without a license; and also three infractions, two written warnings, and four verbal warnings for various other violations, according to Lt Sinko.
Through such enforcement projects, the police seek to improve public safety, he said. Police plan to continue enforcing cellphone violations and other violations affecting public safety, he said.
