Devoted To Those She Loved
Teresa (McDermott) Hegarty, 84, wife of the late John F. Hegarty, died June 21, at home in Brookfield, after a long struggle with Parkinsonâs and heart disease. She was born April 27, 1927, in New York City. She was the daughter of Martha (McNally) and Patrick McDermott.
Mrs Hegarty is survived by seven children, including John Hegarty, and his wife Laura, of Newtown; two sisters; 23 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Mrs Hegarty was a devoted mother to her large family, demonstrating her love daily in the expansive meals she prepared every day up until her illness took hold. At different points in her life, she loved to travel, play bridge, bowl, dance, and entertain friends. Until the end, she loved to spend time with her family, listen to Irish music, and reminisce.
The family wishes to thank their sister, Terry, for her decades of devotion to caring for their mother and father. They would all also like to thank Letticia Letsoalo for the loving care she gave to their mother for the past five and a half years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, Saturday, June 25, at St Joseph Church, Brookfield, with burial to follow in Wooster Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 pm, Friday, June 24, at Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield.
