Anna Hodge, Reporting For ‘The Bee’

Incoming Newtown High School Junior Anna Hodge started interning for The Newtown Bee this week. Over the next couple weeks Anna will be covering events in Newtown.

She has worked for the NHS newspaper, The Hawkeye, and will be one of the paper’s four editors-in-chief for next year. Anna has lived in Newtown since her family, mother Nancy Goulder Hodge, father Robert Hodge and two older brothers, moved to the area in 1999 from New Fairfield.

She said she enjoys writing, because, “I like the ability to put your thoughts onto paper and just letting your mind go loose.”

On journalism, she said, “I like the idea of being one of the first people to inform the world, the community, about certain things.”

Anna is planning to study journalism or English in college, and in ten years, if she could work anywhere, her dream job would be with the New York Times or the Washington Post.

“My mom is a huge inspiration to me,” said Anna, “because she is a writer also. And she always told me to go after whatever I want.”

The 15-year-old said working as an intern at The Bee is her first professional position. Find Anna’s first article in this week’s Newtown Bee, called “Summer Programs Offer Fun Yet Educational Courses.”
