Educational Assistants Thanked
Educational Assistants Thanked
To the Editor:
I wanted to take this opportunity to give a âthank youâ to all 154 educational assistants here in the Newtown Public School District. No matter where they worked, in the cafeteria, computer lab, reading, math, library, in the classroom, Project Adventure, in a group, or as a one-on-one with a student.
Some people in this town think and say they should do this job for free. From the administrators, teachers, parents, and students sometimes they get very little respect, appreciation, or even a thank you. Educational assistants get paid very little and receive only one paid holiday a year. Some of the educational assistants work two to four jobs to make ends meet.
It was a very difficult year, no matter what was said or happened. All of you came in everyday and did a great job. I appreciate all the admiration, caring, corporation, effort, enthusiasm, hard work, patience, reliable, resilient, support, time and understanding, and so much more that you gave to the students as your position as educational assistant. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
In the school budget, some positions were cut. As to how many positions or the hours cut I do not know! You will not know until August, when you will receive a letter from a principal welcoming you back telling you which area your position will be in, along with what teacher, cluster, or grade the position will be.
Until then, I wanted to thank you once again for an outstanding year of service to our students. I wish each and everyone of you a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable summer.
All My Best,
Peggy McIntyre
