Organic Farmers’ Market Granted Trial Run

By Nancy K. Crevier

Newtown Planning and Zoning granted permission, Thursday, June 17, to the local Organic Farmers’ Market for two trial markets to take place on the grounds of Fairfield Hills, in early July, said Planning and Zoning chairman Lilla Dean.

“We told them they could do two markets and then we will evaluate,” Ms Dean said.

Planning and Zoning will assess the impact of the Farmers’ Market on the grounds after the second market takes place, to make sure that there is no damage to fields, that no garbage is left behind, and that customers park where they are supposed to park, she said. The commission will also evaluate how smoothly traffic flows when the market is open.

The Organic Farmers’ Market has been approved to take place on the lawn by Danbury Hall, near the entrance to Fairfield Hills off of Wasserman Way. Parking will be allowed at Danbury Hall. “We felt that there would be good visibility for the market there,” said Ms Dean.
