Police Make Vandalism Arrests, Probe Other Property Damage
Police reported this week that they have been investigating a streak of residential vandalism cases that have occurred in recent weeks, probing the property crimes that often take the form of youths intentionally damaging curbside residential mailboxes in the nighttime.
Police said they charged three young people with criminal offenses in connection with a string of mailbox vandalism incidents which occurred late Friday, June 18, and early Saturday, June 19.
Police said they received complaints concerning mailboxes having been vandalized on Scudder Road, Great Hill Road, Taunton Hill Road, Wedgewood Court, Birch Hill Road, and Brushy Hill Road. Police said that through an investigation they found a motor vehicle containing three suspects whom they charged in the incidents.
Police said they charged Kevin Leibold, 18, of 7 Steck Drive with second-degree criminal mischief, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Leibold was released on a written promise to appear on July 13 in Danbury Superior Court.
Also, police charged two 17-year-old youths each with second-degree criminal mischief. Both were released on written promises to appear July 12 in Danbury Youthful Offender Court. Because the youths are under age 18, their identities are shielded by state law. Â
In a separate vandalism investigation, police are probing various property damage that occurred during the early morning hours of June 20 in the Toddy Hill Road area.
At about 4 am, police were called to the section of Toddy Hill Road lying between its intersections with Still Hill Road and Settlers Lane.
When they arrived, police found that some curbside residential mailboxes, mailbox posts, large rocks, and various other debris had been thrown onto the roadway.
At least one traveling motor vehicle was damaged when it collided with debris on the road, police said.
The Toddy Hill Road area has experienced a rash of such vandalism during recent weeks, according to police.
Police said they believe that the people vandalizing that area were traveling on foot when the incidents took place. Police ask anyone with information on the property damage to contact them at 203-426-5841.
