The Women’s Oldsmobile Scramble, a nationwide golf tournament now in its second year, visited Rock Ridge Country Club this past weekend. Teams from Newtown and surrounding towns competed in a modified scramble format, with the winner advancing to the sectional qualifying championships.

The ultimate goal is the national finals, which will be held from September 27 through October 1 at Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

“We are very excited that women throughout the United States now have the opportunity to compete in their own national amateur golf tournament,” said Debra J. Kelly-Ennis, general manager for Oldsmobile. “The tournament offers women golfers the chance to have fun playing with their friends and, if they do well, go to Walt Disney World to compete in a first-class national tournament event.”

The Women’s Oldsmobile Scramble runs concurrently with the Oldsmobile Scramble, now in its 17th season, which has attracted more than 1.6 million participants since the event began in 1984. In the women’s tournament, 40 teams will advance from local and sectional championships to the national finals.
