South Main Accident

Motorist Devon Wendel, 24, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2013 Subaru Impreza sedan southward near 103 South Main Street, stopped for traffic conditions about 1:27 pm on June 14 and was then struck from behind by southbound motorist Shannon Reynolds, 32, of Greenwich, who was driving a 2012 Honda Odyssey minivan, according to police.

Reynolds received an unknown injury, but refused medical transport, police said. Reynolds received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, according to police.

Church Hill Road Collision

While traveling eastward near 30 Church Hill Road at about 2:21 pm on June 15, motorist Joseph Coates, 28, of Southbury, who was driving a 2000 Honda Civic sedan, struck the rear end of a 1997 Jeep Wrangler SUV driven by Heather Johnson, 23, of 67 Walnut Tree Hill Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Coates received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

Police Pursuit

State police report that at about 7:53 am on June 18, they encountered a vehicle that was being driven erratically on westbound Interstate 84, near the Exit 10 interchange.

State police said they attempted to stop the auto driven by motorist Lillian Wright, 81, of Southbury which was traveling on the road shoulder and passing vehicles.

Wright stopped after the pursuit had lasted for 1.6 miles, state police said.

Wright was transported to Danbury Hospital for an evaluation, according to state police.

State police charged her with driving under suspension, failure to yield to a police officer, passing on the right, and driving an unregistered vehicle. State police said that Wright’s driver’s license had previously had been taken from her by police.

Key Rock Road Collision

Motorist William Hine, 68, of 20 Farm Meadow Road, who was driving a 1994 Ford Escort station wagon northward on Key Rock Road, stopped at a stop sign at that road’s intersection with Sugar Street at about 8:50 am on June 18, after which the Ford was struck from behind by motorist Debra Wolf,  38, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2013 Toyota Prius hatchback, police said.

There were no injuries. Wolf received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

SUV vs Truck

At about 9 am on June 18, motorist Samantha Wolf, 22, of Southbury, who was driving a 2005 Nissan Murano SUV on Mt Pleasant Road, near its intersection with Susan Lane, struck the rear end of a  2013 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Lee Cigna, 41, of Waterbury, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Wolf an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

South Main Collision

At about 11:22 am on June 18, motorist Martin Holladay, 59, of Sheffield, Vt., who was driving a 2012 Subaru Impreza station wagon southward on South Main Street, stopped in preparing to make a left turn into the driveway at 63 South Main Street, but was then struck from behind by southbound motorist Patricia Cohan, 66, of Ivor, Va., who was driving a 2002 Chevrolet van, police said.

There were no injuries. Cohan received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

Minivan & SUV Collide

Police, Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Company members, and Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Taunton Hill Road and Sturges Road about 4:12 pm on June 18.

Police said that as motorist Michelle Spanedda, 19, of 8 Canterbury Road was driving a 2004 Toyota Sienna minivan westward on Taunton Hill Road, motorist Margaret Carroll, 78, of 22 Great Hill Road, who was driving a 2004 Subaru Forester SUV, pulled out from Sturges Road and collided with the minivan. The ambulance corps evaluated both drivers at the scene and did not transport either motorist, police said.

Police said they issued Carroll a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

Mazda vs Ford

At about 6 pm on June 18, motorist Lauren Berko, 21, of 65 Charter Ridge, who was driving a 2010 Ford Fusion sedan on Church Hill Road, near its intersection with Commerce Road, came to a stop and was then struck from behind by motorist Erik Street, 17, of 48 Cobblers Mill Road, who was driving a 1996 Mazda Millenia sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Street received a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police report.

Construction Zone Incident

Trucker Kesso Gunbonzvanda, 34, of Columbus, Ohio, who was driving a 1995 Kenworth tractor-trailer truck eastward on Interstate 84 in a construction zone near the Rochambeau Bridge at about 12:44 am on June 19, collided with the guardailing on the median, damaging about 300 linear feet of guardrailing, state police said.

Gunbonzvanda was not injured. State police issued him an infraction for failure to maintain the proper lane.

Interstate Crash

At about 9 am on June 19, trucker Michael Annunziata, 23, of Branford was driving a 2002 Kenworth W-900 heavy truck westward on Interstate 84, about 1,500 feet west of Exit 11, when he struck the rear end of a 2012 Chevrolet Impala driven by Kenneth Billerback, 50, of Shelton, state police said.

Billerback reported pain, but refused medical attention, state police said. Annunziata received an infraction for following too closely, according to state police.

Wasserman Way Collision

A two-vehicle collision occurred on eastbound Wasserman Way near its intersection with Nunnawauk Road about 11:11 am on June 19.

Motorist Joan Waters, 46, of 18 Greenbriar Lane, who was driving a 2005 Toyota Camry sedan, slowed for stopping traffic and was then struck from behind by motorist Scott Bacha, 34, of Wallingford, who was driving a 2008 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, police said.

Waters and a Camry passenger were transported to Danbury Hospital for medical evaluation, police said. Bacha received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

Hyundai vs Hyundai

At about 3:39 pm on June 19, motorist Linda Manganaro, 63, of 160 Brushy Hill Road was driving a 2004 Hyundai XG-350 sedan southward on South Main Street and then stopped in preparing to turn left into the driveway at 111 South Main Street, police said. Southbound motorist Sophia Matsis, 16, of 46 Bears Hill Road, who was driving a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV, then struck the rear end of the XG-350, police said.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members treated both drivers at the scene and also transported Manganaro to Danbury Hospital, police said. Hook & Ladder firefighters also responded to the scene.

Matsis received an infraction for following too closely, police said.

Intersection Collision

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of South Main Street, Mile Hill Road, and Country Club Road about 4:26 pm on June 19.

Motorist Edward Lucano, 54, of 50 Obtuse Road, who was driving a Volvo S-60 sedan, attempted to change lanes on southbound South Main Street from the straight-ahead lane to the left-turn-only lane, but in doing so struck motorist Kim Monckton, 60, of 96 Huntingtown Road, who was driving a Toyota Avalon sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Lucano received a written warning for disregarding state traffic commission road markings, according to police.

Evading Responsibility

Police report that a three-vehicle chain-reaction collision occurred at about 5 pm on June 19 near Toro Restaurant at 28 Church Hill in which a small blue sedan, which caused the crash, drove away from the scene.

The other vehicles involved in the incident were a Ford Econoline van and a Toyota 4-Runner SUV.

There were no injuries. People with information on the identity of the driver of small blue sedan are asked to contact investigating Officer William Chapman at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Two Vehicles

Police report that at about 5:35 pm on June 19, motorist Matthew Rader, 41, of Southbury, who was riving a 2012 Dodge Durango SUV northward near 71 South Main Street, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by a 2011 Nissan Sentra sedan driven by Susan Clark, 23, of Monroe.

There were no injuries. Clark received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police report.

Keys Found

On June 20, a set of keys was found on the pavement on Vining Road, a side street that extends from Toddy Hill Road in Sandy Hook.

The person who found them turned over the keys to police for safekeeping. Police said the owner may claim the keys by contacting Officer Matthew Wood at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Deer vs Prius

Sandy Hook Fire & Rescue and Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded around 7:20 am on Friday, June 20, to I-84 West, just west of the Rochambeau Bridge, after a Toyota Prius struck a deer that had run in front of the vehicle. The female driver of the Prius was checked by NVAC members and firefighters, but did not need to be transported to the hospital.

The accident caused slight travel delays during the morning rush hour, but its affect was limited because the driver was able to pull her vehicle inside the construction area currently occupying part of the bridge and the slow speed lane immediately off the bridge.

Firefighters checked the roadway for fluids, and returned to service around 8 am. Connecticut State Police responded to the scene but did not have a report on the incident. The deer did not survive the impact.

DUI, Risk Of Injury Charges

Police report they received a complaint about 10:37 am on June 20, stating that a man who was possibly intoxicated was with a child at the town’s dog park at Fairfield Hills, so they investigated.

Police said they spotted that man driving a vehicle at the intersection of Mile Hill Road and South Main Street, after which the man drove through a red traffic signal there with a 6-year-old child as a passenger in the vehicle.

Police said they stopped the vehicle to investigate, after which they charged motorist Daniel Thebodo, 48, of 35 Appleblossom Lane with driving under the influence, risk of injury to a minor, and failure to obey a traffic control signal.

Police later released Thebodo on a written promise to appear for arraignment on July 2 in Danbury Superior Court.

Hawleyville Accident

Police report that motorist Thomas Farbizio, 49, of 155 Currituck Road was driving a 2013 Acura TSX sedan northward on Hawleyville Road, near its intersection with Barnabas Road, about 7 pm on June 21, when the Acura struck the rear end of a northbound 2004 Volvo C-70 convertible driven by Katherine Burke, 29, of Danbury.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Farbizio a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

DUI By Minor

Police said that at about 4:11 am on June 22, they responded to the intersection of Glen Road and Pine Street after receiving a report that an automobile accident had occurred there.

Police said that after investigating, they found the vehicle involved in the crash and its driver at the driver’s residence in the Pootatuck Park neighborhood.

Police report they charged motorist Eric Sutton, 19, of 72 Edgelake Drive with driving under the influence by a minor, making a restricted turn, and interfering with police.

Sutton was released on a written promise to appear in court on July 1.

Vehicular Violations

Police said that at about 10:09 am on June 23, they made a traffic stop near the intersection of Wasserman Way and Trades Lane.

After investigating, police charged motorist Erica Walton, 34, of Southbury with traveling unreasonably fast, driving under suspension, and failure to carry automotive documents. Walton is scheduled to appear in court to answer the charges.

DUI Incident

Police report that at about 4:11 pm on June 24, they spotted motorist Jill Shepard, 32, of 25 Cricket Trail drive into the rear parking lot at Town Hall South at 3 Main Street, after which she repeatedly lost her balance while walking in the parking lot.

Police said they investigated and charged her with driving under the influence. Shepard was released on $200 bail for a July 9 court appearance, police said.
