Newtown Hook & Ladder and Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue firefighters check the engine compartment of a 2014 Ford Escape after dousing a fire within that vehicle around 7 am Monday, June 23. The male driver of the car was able to safely exit without injury. Church Hill Road was closed between its intersections with Queen Street and Wendover Road for approximately 40 minutes, while firefighters doused the fire. —Bee Photo, Hicks
