'Art Of Dr Seuss' Will Visit Connecticut
âArt Of Dr Seussâ
Will Visit Connecticut
CHESHIRE â The month of July is an especially appropriate time to visit Barker Animation, Fine Art and Sculptures as the gallery and museumâs owners present the Connecticut premiere of âThe Art of Dr Seuss: A Retrospective and National Exhibitionâ to celebrate the 100th birthday of Theodor (Dr Seuss) Geisel.
From July 1 until August 1, the gallery will host âThe Art of Dr Seuss: A Retrospective and National Touring Exhibition,â a traveling exhibition that debuted in November 2003.
The exhibit highlights works created between the 1920 and the 1990s that chronicle Seussâ little-known political cartoons drawn during World War II, his rarely seen advertising art, and his colorful and complex paintings from The Secret Art of Dr Seuss. The retrospective focuses on the common artistic links found through Seussâ nearly 70 years of creativity.
The exhibition also offers a rare glimpse into the artistic life of this celebrated American icon and chronicles almost seven decades of work that, in every respect, is uniquely, stylistically and endearingly âSeussian.â It is a presentation of nearly 70 years worth of American history via the timeless, groundbreaking, and fun work of Theodor Seuss Geisel.
Works in the exhibition have been gathered from significant public and private collections including the University of California at San Diego Archives, Lyndon Baines Johnson Presidential Library, and the estate of Theodor Geisel.
Barker Animation, Fine Art and Sculptures Gallery is at 1188 Highland Avenue in Cheshire. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, 800-995-2357.
Kevin Frest will be present during a special evening reception on Thurs, July 21, to provide insights into Mr Geiselâs artistic life, his unique vision and his impact on American culture.
Also, one of Dr Seussâ favorite characters, The Cat in the Hat, will appear at the gallery on Saturdays during July to surprise kids of all ages.
