More than 30 swimmers from the Ridgefield Aquatic Club attended the Wilton Senior Qualifier Swim Meet during the weekend of June 17-19.
More than 30 swimmers from the Ridgefield Aquatic Club attended the Wilton Senior Qualifier Swim Meet during the weekend of June 17-19.
Many of RACâs 13-14 year old swimmers fared very well. Helping lead the way was Andrew Golankewicz of Sandy Hook, who placed fourth in the 200 backstroke.
At a recent Wilton Age Group Qualifier, with more than 70 RAC swimmers competing, Golankiewicz was sixth in the 50 freestyle, sixth in the 100 freestyle, fifth in the 100 and fourth in the 200 backstroke, and sixth in the 100 butterfly. Alex Kron of Sandy Hook was fourth in the 50 freestyle and fifth in the 100 backstroke.
Madison Mile
Jimmy Gaston, 15, of Newtown took first place in the 15-16 age group with a stunning finish of 24:04 in the Madison Mile Open Water Swim Championships at the Madison Surf Club. The event was sponsored by Connecticut United States Master Swimming.
More than 375 swimmers gathered to swim the challenging 1.3-mile course in moderate swells.
Ryan Cahalane of Newtown turned in an excellent performance, as well, finishing first in the 13-year-old division with a time of 26:16. Other strong swims were recorded by Sally Tabler and Maricate Conlon, both of Sandy Hook.
These swimmers are year round team members of the Wilton Y Wahoos.
