Schweitzer Will Have One-Artist Show

At The 30 Bridge Street Gallery

NEW MILFORD — Newtown resident Beth Schweitzer will be having a solo show of her paintings at the 30 Bridge Street Gallery at 30 Bridge Street for eight weeks.

The show will open on Sunday, July 6, with an opening reception from 2 to 5 pm, and will then remain on view through August 30. Twenty large scale landscape, figurative and portrait paintings in oil and acrylic will be shown.

“Currently, I am working on both landscapes and portraits as a platform for the investigation of rhythm, color and form,” Ms Schweitzer wrote recently in her artist’s statement. “Having a deep interest in art and music, I am striving for a musical quality in my work. Each painting is created with a definite color key in mind that will capture a visual mood.

“These paintings are not literal but are abstractions aimed to highlight the essence of form and textural quality. For me, each one is an investigation of not what you see but what you feel on first impression,” she continued.

Beth Schweitzer graduated from Boston University. She studied painting at The State University of New York at Purchase, The Silvermine Guild Art Center and at The Wooster Community Art Center in Danbury.

The paintings exhibited at The 30 Bridge Street Gallery, by and large, represent Ms Schweitzer’s work of 2007 and 2008. The artist concentrates on landscapes and figurative work that capture sublime visual moments. Her paintings are loosely representational and she works in oil and acrylic on canvas.

Between 2005 and 2008, Ms Schweitzer has had paintings accepted and awarded at numerous juried shows including The Society of Creative Arts in Newtown (SCAN), The Mark Twain Redding Library Show and Ridgefield Guild of Artists (RGA) show.  In 2005, she exhibited her work in a solo show at C.H. Booth Library in Newtown, and in 2006, she exhibited at the White Silo Farm and Winery in Sherman.  Her paintings and drawings are in private collections throughout the United States.

Ms Schweitzer is a member of SCAN and RGA. She lives in Newtown with her husband and her six Labrador retrievers.
