Ram Pasture Gets A New Sign
On Monday, June 30, a new sign at Ram Pasture was installed by Signworks Studios. This new, smaller sign sits at the corner of Hawley Road and Elm Drive. It resembles the big sign at the corner of Main Street and Sugar Street, a sign that Burgess Maureen Crick Owen’s father worked on in the past. Crick Owen said that her father “was always proud of that sign” and it meant a lot to her to keep it “traditional."
“I like to keep things traditional and continue on my dad’s legacy,” Crick Owen shared. The sign was purchased using American Relief Plan Act (ARPA) funds the Borough received. The Newtown Village Cemetery Association Board contributed some funds to the project as well.
Brett Boros from Signworks Studios is the man who refurbished and installed the sign. He said, “I feel pretty honored to have been able to do that. I live in Sandy Hook, so it was something that I was really looking forward to doing.” He added that his kids love seeing it as they drive by. He said that he refurbished both the original sign, using HDU, or high density urethane, to fill in holes left behind on the original sign. He replaced all the hardware with stainless steel and had to completely remake the wooden trim because it had rotted.
It took Boros about a month to create this new, smaller sign, but said, “there’s a lot of love in it...The whole time working on these, it was a blast for me. I get to [work on] stuff that you’re driving by every day and get to see it. It’s nice.”
