Following Too Close

Newtown Police report that Chad Harris, 51, of New Haven, operating a 2003 Chevrolet Express, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road, at 12:01 pm June 10. Behind him was Brittany Williams, 32, of New Haven, operating a 2023 Nissan Rogue, and behind her was Alyssa Neale, 31, of Monroe, operating a 2020 Dodge Charger.

Harris stopped for traffic ahead, and Williams did not stop in time, rear ending his vehicle. Neale attempted to swerve by veering right to avoid Williams' vehicle, but ultimately collided with the vehicle anyway.

No injuries were reported. None of the vehicles were towed.

Williams was issued a verbal warning for following too close.

Delivery Truck Backs Into Parked Car

Newtown Police report Alexis Ortiz, 22, of East Haven, operating a 2021 Freightliner delivery truck, was backing in the private parking lot of 105 Church Hill Road at 10:46 am June 23. He backed into a 2013 Subaru Legacy owned by Matthew Morgan, that was parked unoccupied in another space.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Passing On The Right

Newtown Police report Kathleen Raffery, 31, of Milford, operating a 2025 Tesla Model Y, was traveling southbound on Queen Street at 12:42 pm June 25. She was traveling behind a 2002 Subaru Legacy operated by Ernestine Mahoney, 84, of Sandy Hook. Mahoney slowed to make a right turn into a driveway and Raffery attempted to pass on the right side, and the vehicles collided.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Mahoney was issued a written warning for passing on the right side.

Collision In Intersection

Newtown Police report Theresa Dexter, 78, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2019 Nissan Rogue, was traveling northbound on Evergreen Road at 11:11 am June 26. Courtenay Gilbert, 40, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2017 Infiniti Qc60, was traveling westbound on Schoolhouse Hill Road. Gilbert was traveling through the intersection of Evergreen Road and Schoolhouse Hill Road when Dexter entered the intersection, and the vehicles collided.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Dexter received a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way at a stop sign.

Rear Ended On Edmond Road

Newtown Police report John Romero, 21, of Danbury, operating a 2020 Ram 1500, was traveling south on Edmond Road at 3:45 pm June 26. He was traveling behind a 2020 Kia Sorento operated by Andrea Paltauf, 56, of Newtown. Paltauf stopped for the red light at the four way intersection with Church Hill Road. Romero stopped behind. Paltauf began forward but stopped short because of additional traffic, and Romero did not stop in time, rear ending Paltauf's vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Romero was issued a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Parking Lot Fender Bender

Newtown Police report Sitranie Hensel, 48, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2011 BMW 328xi, was attempting to park in a space in the lot of Caraluzzi's at 4:39 pm June 26. Her vehicle collided with an unoccupied 2014 Subaru Impreza owned by Kristin Raamot, 57, of Sandy Hook.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Vehicles Backed Into Each Other

Newtown Police report Ruchika Tyagi, 45, of Fairfield, operating a 2024 Hyundai Sonata, was backing up in a driveway on Botsford Hill Road. Mehmet Gozcu, 31, of Derby, operating a 2023 Ford F450, was backing in the same driveway. The two vehicles backed into each other.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Three Injured In Collision

Newtown Police report Anthony Filiato, 61, of Newtown, operating a 2021 Subaru Outback, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 5:34 pm June 27. Alexander Eriksen, 16, of Redding, operating a 2019 Tesla Model 3, was traveling southbound on South Main Street. Filiato attempted to turn left onto Country Club Road ahead of Eriksen's vehicle, and the vehicles collided.

Both operators and a passenger were all transported to Danbury Hospital for possible injuries. Both vehicles were towed.

Filiato was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way at an intersection.

Struck Telephone Pole

Newtown Police report Westley Fraczek, 18, of New Milford, operating a 2021 Chevrolet Equinox, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 4:48 pm June 29. Fraczek's vehicle ran off the road and hit a telephone pole.

Fraczek was evaluated at the scene by EMTs but declined transport. The vehicle was towed.

Fraczek was issued an infraction for making a restricted turn.

Unsafe Backing

Newtown Police report Carolyn Signorelli, 61, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek, was backing up on the southbound shoulder of Main Street near a driveway. Anne Dalton, 71, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2022 Toyota Prius, was turning left into the driveway. Dalton's vehicle struck Signorelli's vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Signorelli was issued a written warning for unsafe backing.
