Eighth Grade Students Honored For Their Volunteer Contributions To Ashlar
While eighth graders at Newtown Middle School, Jackie Cedor and Michele Imperioli chose to volunteer once a week at Ashlar of Newtown. Five years and more than 750 hours later, Jackie and Michele are still visiting with residents at Ashlar.
In recognition of their contribution, Jackie was recently awarded a $1,000 Ashlar of Newtown Junior Volunteer Scholarship. Michele received $1,000 from the Victoria and Alexander Bruno Scholarship.
Ashlar of Newtown award these scholarships each year in recognition of two high school seniorsâ contributions to Home.
A highlight of their Ashlar experience, Michele and Jackie agreed, was working at the Commons Café and Gift Shop at Lockwood Lodge, Ashlarâs assisted living facility. The young women baked cookies, played board games and other activities with residents, displayed greeting cards and managed the shopâs inventory.
They agreed the best apart about their volunteer work was building relationships with the residents.
