Louise B. Gladys Gill of Newtown died on June 30, at the age of 87, at Masonicare at Newtown with her family at her side.
Louise was born in Bridgeport Hospital on February 18, 1923, the eldest daughter of Wilma and Alfred Swan. She attended Bridgeport schools, graduating from Central High in 1940. She was a World Ware II veteran, having served in the WAVES, stationed in Washington, D.C. Mrs Gill also worked at Bullard-Havens as a secretary in her early years.
After moving to Sandy Hook, she worked as a homemaker for several years. She was a secretary for Pelletier Alarms for many years before becoming the school secretary at Middle Gate School, a position she loved for 14 years. After her retirement, Louise worked at Cyrenius H. Booth Library prior to her illness.
Louise married John T. Gill, Sr, on December 15, 1945, and they remained married for 64 years. They moved to Sandy Hook on December 15, 1954, and resided on Maple Drive for 38 years before moving to Nunnawauk Meadows.
Mrs Gill was predeceased by her husband.
She will be remembered as Mother to Jay T. Gill, and wife Renee, John T. Gill, Jr, and wife Sandra, of Sandy Hook, and Judy G. Mastrianno, and husband Hank, of Hallowell, Maine. She was also the grandmother of David Mastrianno and wife Julie, of Augusta, Maine, John Mastrianno and wife Rebecca of Sabattus, Maine, Christina Hodge and husband Paul of Oakville, Jennifer Gill, John T. Gill III and Sean T. Gill of Sandy Hook, and LCPL Dustin T. Gill, a US Marine stationed in Japan. She was also the great-grandmother of eight, and âAunt Bebeâ to Scott Gasso of Lake Oswego, Ore., and Laurie Kennedy of Portland Ore.
As per her wishes there will be no calling hours or services. She did want, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to The Connecticut Childrenâs Medical Center Foundation, 282 Washington Street, Hartford CT 06106, or to C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street, Newtown CT 06470. Honan Funeral Home of Newtown is assisting the family.
