Free Movie Screenings To Continue
Through The Summer At Booth Library
By Eliza Hallabeck
Two movies were shown for free on Thursday, July 8, in C.H. Booth Libraryâs meeting room, offering residents somewhere to go during the hot summer day.
Despite Thursday having a high of 85 degrees, roughly ten degrees lower than the previous day, library staff said the movies were a first in a program that will continue through the summer.
âThey are great feel good movies that will lift you up and cool you down,â said Kim Weber, who is in charge of adult programming at the library.Â
The decision to show the movies was made on Wednesday, July 7, the day after Governor M. Jodi Rell announced cooling centers would be opened in towns and cities across the state for residents to find relief from the upper 90 degree weather. On July 7, Reed Intermediate Schoolâs library was opened as one of those cooling centers.
Childrenâs Librarian Alana Bennison chose Up, an animated film about 78-year old Carl Fredricksen and a young wilderness explorer who find themselves on an adventure after Carl lifts his house into the air by tying balloons to it, and Ms Weber chose Young At Heart, a documentary that follows a chorus of senior citizens from Massachusetts.. Up was shown first at 1 pm, and âYoung At Heartâ was shown at 3 pm.
Booth Library Director Janet Woycik said showing the movies was her idea, and the movies came from the libraryâs collection.
Residents can learn about future movie showings by checking in at www.CHBoothLibrary.org, or by signing up on the website to join the libraryâs email list. When future showings are scheduled, Ms Woycik said, email blasts will be sent out.
