Glenn E. Rothe

A Legacy Of Generosity

Glenn E. Rothe died June 20, in Las Vegas, Nev., after a brief illness. Born February 13, 1957, in Danbury, he was the son of Marion and Frank Rothe.

Educated in Newtown, he served in the US Air Force from 1975 to 1981. Stationed at the Pentagon for most of his enlistment, he then transferred to Griffiss AFB in Rome, N.Y., where he married the former Linda DiGristine on January 27, 1979.

After being discharged with honors from the Air Force, he became vice president of marketing for Wang Laboratories New Hampshire division from 1981 to 1985. This led to the same position in New Hartford, until he relocated to Connecticut in 1995 to become operations manager of manufacturing for Memry Corp of Bethel, a leading manufacturer of surgical and medical equipment worldwide. A Las Vegas vacation in 2003 led to an opportunity to become a regional operations manager for Dairy Queen of Southern Nevada.

While serving as a longtime coach and board member in the Legacy Little League of Henderson, Nev., Mr Rothe was instrumental in coordinating the 2009 All Star team that was beaten in the title game of the West Regional by the eventual Little League World Series champion, Chula Vista, Calif.

His devotion to youth sports led to the establishment of The Glenn E. Rothe Legacy Little League Scholarship Fund, which covers expenses for underprivileged youths so they can play Little League Baseball. His projects ensure that his legacy of tireless generosity, commitment, and support will continue to live on.

He is survived by his cherished children, daughter and son-in-law, Crista and Curtis Withrow, along with grandchildren Aaron, Jordan, and Morgan, and son Glenn Jr, all of Rome; and brothers, Steven and wife Anita of Yorktown, Va., and Clifford and partner Ellie of Southbury; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Keith. He will also be forever sadly missed by his second family of Tom, Michelle, Tommy, and Xander Vanderhoof, with whom he resided in Las Vegas. “He left us way too soon but so much better than he found us.”

Donations for The Glenn E. Rothe Legacy Little League Scholarship Fund can be made to Legacy Little League, 2657 Windmill Parkway #322, Henderson NV 89074.

A graveside funeral service will be held Monday, July 26, at 10 am, at Zoar Cemetery, Berkshire Road, Sandy Hook.
