Registrars Remind Voters About Primary Deadlines
Newtownâs Democratic Registrar of Voters LeReine Frampton has issued a release detailing important dates and rules for those wishing to vote in the Democratic Primary in Newtown on August 10.
*You must be a registered Democrat in Newtown.
*If you are registered in another party, the cutoff date to switch parties was May 10.
*If you are not registered to vote at all in Newtown, August 5 is the cutoff except for in person with the town clerk or registrar of voters.
*If you are registered as âunaffiliated,â or do not belong to any party, August 5 is the cutoff for mail-in registration. Individuals, however, can register in-person August 9 from 9 am until noon at the registrar of voters office.
*The town clerkâs office cannot accept party enrollments except when you are registering to vote between August 6 and August 10.
The registrar of voters office is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday between 9 am and 1pm. The Democratic registrar will have special hours on July 27 between 5 and 7 pm to enroll voters.Â
Requests to add names of those removed will be heard during these hours as well.
According to Republican Registrar Karin Aurelia, all the above guidelines also apply to voters who may want to participate in the GOP primary on the same date.
The registrar of voters office is located at 3 Primrose St in the Municipal Center. The phone is 203-270-4250. All absentee ballots are issued through the town clerkâs office, 203-270-4210.
